Today nations around the world and North Carolinians will celebrate International Women's Day and a national movement, "A Day Without A Woman," aimed to empower women.
The day is dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.
This year's campaign is #BEBOLDFORCHANGE. There are eventsplanned both nationwide and locally that will take place.

The day also coincides with the national strike movement "A Day Without A Woman."
It aims to draw attention to inequities working women face compared to men from wage disparity to harassment and job insecurity.
In our state schools in Chapel Hill will close because of the movement.
Principals and other supervisors said they anticipated a high rate of staff absences. This will make it difficult in the teaching industry across the area. It will affect school transportation and food services.
