Hose leaks on school bus, sending students to hospital
A hose on a Pitt County school bus burst Monday morning, sending a few middle school students to a hospital, an official said.
The bus, carrying 38 students, was heading to Hope Middle School in Greenville at about 7:45 a.m., when steam began coming from the bottom of the vehicle, according to Brock Letchworth, the spokesperson for Pitt County Schools. As a result, the bus pulled over near Ivy Road, about a mile and a half from the school.
A radiator hose that runs through the length of the bus had burst, leaking antifreeze and steam, Letchworth said. Four students were taken to a hospital with minor skin irritations. The other students were evaluated once they arrived at the school, according to Letchworth.
