NEWPORT, CARTERET COUNTY -

Suspects in Newport had no success hiding from officers this weekend, according to police.

One suspect was caught hiding in bushes, while another was hiding in a closet, according to Chief Jeff Clark.

Both suspects were found after police chased them on foot.

Police arrested 25-year-old Desmond Bennett Friday.

Officers had chased him through Tower Apartments, off Howard Boulevard.

Police said they found him in a closet inside one of the apartments.

Bennett had been wanted on drug and other charges.

The next day, officers ran after 21-year-old Blayne Thomas in the area of Mindora Court and Chatham Street.

Police say they found him hiding behind bushes in that area.

Officers chased Thomas after he jumped out of a window during a drug investigation, Clark said.

Thomas had 25 pending charges in Carteret and Craven counties.

Police said they found him with pills, needles, and other drug items.
