HAVELOCK, CRAVEN COUNTY -

Havelock High School's all-state running back Derrell Scott has decided to go to the University of Tennessee.

Scott made the announcement Monday afternoon at Havelock High. Scott was named MVP when the Rams defeated Concord in December for the state championship. He had a 96-yard touchdown run, which is the longest run ever in a state title game.

It was Havelock's third straight state championship. The Rams also beat Concord for the state title in 2012 and West Rowan in 2011.

Scott, a four-year starter for Havelock, is the school's all-time leading rusher.
