HAVELOCK, CRAVEN COUNTY - Havelock police have arrested James Allen Castonguay, 32, of Morehead City. They say he robbed the Waffle House in Havelock just before 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Police say upon further investigation, it appears Castonguay may be responsible for a string of additional armed robberies in the area.
Havelock police say James Castonguay walked into the Waffle House at 225 U.S. Highway 70 West at 5:42 Saturday morning with a knife and demanded money from workers. Police were on the scene a short time later. Castonguay was apprehended as he tried to flee the scene in a vehicle from a parking lot next door. There were no injuries during the robbery. Officers searched the suspects car and seized two knives, a mask, and the money taken from the Waffle House.
During processing investigators learned that Castonguay is also alleged to have been involved in two other robberies. One of those robberies was Saturday night, May 24, 2014 at the Holiday Inn Express in Havelock and the second was alleged to have occurred on Sunday night, May 25, 2014 at a motel in Jacksonville, N.C.
Havelock and Jacksonville Police are now working together on this case.
Castonguay is being held at the Craven County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond. At this time he is charged with 2 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. More charges are pending.
