Alicia Bess is a senior at Havelock High School and president of the Future Business Leaders of America.

Her and six other students have created a program for the Emerging Issues Forum Innovative Challenge at NC State and have been identified as a finalist.

The students came up with “HELP” The Handy Educational Learning Program.

It’s a computer software program that uses a “Stop Light” method to allow students to privately engage with teachers.

If a student understands the material, they press a green light button, but if they don’t, they press the red light button.

The method allows students to ask questions about material without the fear of being embarrassed.

Havelock High School is the only school outside of the Raleigh area that is a finalist for this program.

The students now have until Monday to get as many votes as possible.

If the school wins, they will receive $5000 to get the program up and running.

We will have a link set up below if you would like more information or to vote.
