BEAUFORT, CARTERET COUNTY - A guilty plea to a habitual driving while impaired charge landed a man in prison with a sentence of at least 2 1/2 years.
James Matthew Kitchen, 37, pleaded guilty to habitual driving while impaired in Carteret County, according to a news release from District Attorney Scott Thomas.
A Newport Police officer pulled over Kitchen, of Dunn, in late March, and Kitchen allegedly had a blood-alcohol level of .14.
The legal limit is .08.
Kitchen, authorities said, has three prior DWI convictions: in Wayne County in December of 2012, in Onslow County in December of 2012, and in Carteret County in January of 2013.
Kitchen was sentenced to between 30 and 45 months in prison.
