GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY - Pirate Nation filled Five Points Plaza in Greenville Friday evening as the city celebrates the start of the ECU football season.
The event is a 15 year-old tradition complete with live music, arts and crafts, and food and drinks from different Uptown restaurants.
The Freeboot Friday celebration will take place Friday evenings before every ECU home football game. Each week the city expects nearly 4,000 people to come out and enjoy the fun.
Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas says this event is the perfect chance to showcase the city's growth.
"It's a good time to show off all the progress here over a hundred million dollars of new restaurants, retail stores here in Uptown Greenville in the past year and a half," says Mayor Thomas.
Freeboot Friday attracts Pirate fans both young and old. The next scheduled event date is September 19th.
