A new Walmart opened in Greenville Wednesday morning, one of 24 Walmart stores opening across the country that day.
According to a release, the new 153,000-square-foot store, located at 4600 E. 10th St., features a line of groceries, a pharmacy, a digital photo processing center, and a vision center.
About 300 associates have been hired to staff the new Walmart, the release stated. The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"For a large portion of our population, this means a choice," Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas said of the store. "Rather than traversing down Greenville Boulevard, they now can shop at this new state-of-the-art facility serving Greenville, Pitt and surrounding counties."
To celebrate Wednesday's grand opening, $5,500 in grants will be donated to several area organizations, the release stated.
