GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

Governor Pat McCrory (R) attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning for the James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center.

According to Vidant, the children's hospital addition features newly-designed patient rooms, pediatric equipment, and specially-trained staff.  A unit for treating children with cancer and a special care nursery are included in the 78,000 square-foot space as well.

"At Vidant Health, we have made a promise to Eastern North Carolina to provide access, experience and great outcomes," said Dr. David Herman, CEO and president of Vidant Health. "This first-class facility was designed by people who wanted to make the care of children and their families the best it could possible be. There is an atmosphere that helps decrease anxiety and keeps families close together, but it's also a place where great providers come together to deliver that care with concern and compassion."

In addition to Gov. McCrory and Herman, speakers  at the ceremony included Steve Lawler, president of Vidant Medical Center, and Dr. Paul Cunningham, dean of the Brody School of Medicine at ECU.
