Girls Scouts gave a new outdoor classroom to an elementary school in Pitt County.
Damage from Hurricane Irene in 2011 prevented students from enjoying the wooded area behind Elmhurst Elementary School in Greenville.
Troop 3011 spent 16 months cleaning up the woods and turning it into something useful.
"Before it looked like a bunch of sticks and leaves everywhere and now there is an organized path and a classroom," Lindsey Gerbble, a senior Girl Scout said. "It's a great feeling because I still walk through here sometimes too."
The troop also created science experiments for students to be able to conduct in their new outdoor classroom.
Funds for the project were raised through the troop and the school's parent-teacher association.
