The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $4,000 for Jordan Skaggs' three young children, as well as her parents. The money will go toward the cremation of Jordan's body, legal fees, costs of hotel rooms and meals.
As of Monday evening, $2,295 were raised.
According to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office, Jordan Skaggs was shot and killed by her husband, 32-year-old Camp Lejeune Sgt. Christopher Michael Skaggs. It happened at their home on the 500 block of Cherry Blossom Lane, about 6 miles southwest of Richlands, on July 13, investigators said.
Jordan Skaggs was 31 years old.
Sheriff Ed Brown said Jordan and her three children were at a neighbor's pool that night. She then went home, where an argument began between her and her husband, Sheriff Brown explained.
Christopher Skaggs then shot his wife several times in the chest with a handgun, killing her, said Sheriff Brown.
Christopher Skaggs was arrested and charged with an open count of murder, the Sheriff's Office said. At last check, he was being held under no bond.
Sheriff Brown said Christopher and Jordan Skaggs were married for six years, and there was a history of abuse.
Christopher Skaggs --originally from Washington, Pa.-- is a Marine assigned as a staff member at the School of Infantry-East aboard Camp Geiger, a satellite facility of Camp Lejuene, base officials said. He was working in the logistics section of Infantry Training Battalion.
