Lightning strike causes fire that destroys home

ONSLOW COUNTY - An online fundraising campaign has been started to raise money for an Onslow County couple who lost their home to a lightning strike.

Bob and Jane Hill lost not only their home at 158 Stump Sound Church Road outside Holly Ridge Their two cats died as well.

Onslow County Fire Marshal Bryan Kelly said a lightning bolt hit the second floor of the house, causing a fire that destroyed the residence on June 27.

The Hills have homeowners insurance. But because it will take months to rebuild, they are staying with friends.

With that in mind, Deb Johnson has created a page on to raise money for the Hills. As of Wednesday night, $2,325 were raised. The goal is $5,000. The money will go toward clothing, food, and daily expenses for the couple.
