PLYMOUTH, WASHINGTON COUNTY - A former all-star athlete is arrested as a suspect in a shooting at a Washington County apartment complex that injured a man.
Damien J. Linson, 28, of Plymouth, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shooting 38-year-old Corey Norman, investigators told NewsChannel 12. The incident happened Sunday night around 8:30, at Olde Towne Apartments on the 700 block of Highway 64 West in Plymouth, police said.
Linson was a star athlete who football and basketball at Plymouth High School. He graduated in 2003. Plymouth High School football coach Robert Cody said in his 30 years of coaching, Linson was one of his most promising athletes.
"Damien Linson was a super football player, super basketball player and a tremendous athlete," he said.
Linson holds the record for second all-time in state history in career touchdown catches. After high school Linson played college ball at Central Michigan for three years. Coach Cody said he then went on to play in preseason games for an NFL team the Baltimore Ravens in 2006
"He had a great opportunity, went off to college and got a college degree and it's a terrible thing that has happened," said Coach Cody.
A neighbor, who did not give us his name, lives in an apartment right beside the victim, Corey Norman.
"I mean Corey, I never expected that to happen to him either. I don't know what the situation was or what caused it," explained the neighbor.
The neighbor said he is also a good friend of Linson and couldn't believe the news.
"It's out of his character for him. Nobody has ever known for him to do anything like that. I think it's ridiculous to me," he said.
The victim was being treated at Vidant Medical Center, according to investigators. His condition was not released.
Linson was being held on a $75,000 bond, police said. There was no word on a motive.
