CRAVEN COUNTY - Update:
A woman who was riding with Barrett Vogel, said he lost control around a turn before hitting a guard rail.
Vogel's fiance, Jessica, was riding with Vogel at the time fo the accident. She told NewsChannel12 Vogel was taking the curve too wide before the accident. Vogel died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.
Vogel's only daughter, Brooke said he was a good man, who loved his motorcycle.
"He was happy, he was in love. He loved me, he loved his fiance. He was happy. Good people go when it's their time," Vogel said. "He always rode a Harley. Since he was 18. It was an accident though. When I saw him, because I did, that night. [He was] just at peace, doing what he loved."
Barrett Vogel's funeral is May 8 at Munden's Fuenral Home in Morehead City.
It will be held at 4:00 p.m.
A Marine veteran and employee at MCAS Cherry Point died Saturday in a Craven County motorcycle crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
Barrett Dean Vogel, 45, was merging onto Highway 17 South from Highway 55 in the Bridgeton area Saturday evening, when his Harley Davidson motorcycle ran off the road and hit a guardrail, said the investigating trooper.
The impact threw Vogel off the motorcycle and he landed about 30 feet away in the nearby woods, the trooper said. Crews airlifted Vogel to a Greenville hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The investigation did not reveal any factors that contributed to the crash, according to the trooper.
Vogel's Facebook page lists him as a Marine veteran and employee at FRC East, the aircraft repair shop at MCAS Cherry Point.
