A Pitt County man is accused of trying to shoot his 17-year-old son after waking the teen up.
According to Christie Wallace with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old Danny Haddock allegedly tried to shoot his son at their home on Old N.C. 11, south of Ayden. Deputies got the call at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Haddock's 17-year-old son told deputies he was sleeping in his bed when his father entered the room and woke him up. Haddock then shot into his son's bed, but missed the teen, Wallace said.
The teen, his mother and two younger children managed to escape from the home, Wallace told NewsChannel 12.
Haddock was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and misdemeanor child abuse. He was being held in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $125,000 bond.
There is no word on a motive.
Neighbor Linwood Buck said he wasn't surprised the incident happened.
"Well, sooner or later, he's going to kill somebody if they don't do something with him," said Buck. "I'd just love to be the judge when he goes to court. He wouldn't be shooting a gun no time soon."
Other neighbors said since the Haddock family moved to the neighborhood three years ago, numerous disturbance calls to authorities have been placed regarding activity in the home. NewsChannel 12 is working with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office to confirm how many times deputies have reported to the Haddock residence.
Public records show this wasn't the first time Haddock was in trouble with the law. He had been convicted for drunk and disorderly conduct, two counts of DWI, and being armed to terrorize people, according to records.
