Jamie Lee Curtis talks ScarJo playing mom

Anthony Hopkins wasn't the only "Hitchcock" star who was sensitive about his new role.

When Scarlett Johansson picked up the gig of playing "Psycho" actress Janet Leigh in the Sacha Gervasi-directed feature about the making of Alfred Hitchcock's seminal 1960 thriller, she wanted to make sure Leigh's daughters, Jamie Lee and Kelly Curtis, were OK with it.

"She wanted to just make sure that we understood as Janet's adult daughters and grandchildren that she was treating this with a lot of respect," Jamie Lee told CNN at "Hitchcock's" premiere earlier this week. "She was treating this with a lot of gravitas, she was taking this very seriously, and she wanted us to know that."

Like Hopkins and Helen Mirren, who plays Alfred Hitchcock's wife Alma Reville in the film, Johansson was aware that portraying a real person on screen can be tricky.

"This wasn't something where she was not aware of the oddness of portraying someone who has living children," Jamie Lee continued. "She was hoping that we would appreciate that and that it would come out in the work."

"Also it was a time of transition for Hitchcock and our mother, and I think this film addresses that," Kelly added. "She wanted to make sure that that was portrayed correctly."

It's clear Johansson wanted to nail the look, as well.

"Scarlett sent me a photograph ... early on in the production where they had a picture of her and a picture of Janet in the car," Jamie Lee recalled, "and it was ... it was really the first moment I said to my sister, 'OK, this will be interesting.'"
