CRAVEN COUNTY - At Farm Life Elementary School, learning doesn't have to happen just from your seat.
Students in the K-2 Exceptional Children's Program learn a few of their daily lessons from inside an igloo made out of milk jugs.
Teacher Melanie Ross says she saw the idea online and knew her students would love it. She collected 232 milk jugs from students, parents and church members in the community.
"For them to associate the word igloo with the real object igloo, that means they're learning. Yes, they learn differently in this classroom, but they are learning," said Ross.
Inside the igloo are paper fish with magnets, which helps teach the kids hand-eye coordination. Ross said the activities also teach the kids how to share, count and identify different colors.
She said when the class is done with the igloo, the recycling center should be very excited to get 232 milk jugs.
