GRANTSBORO, PAMLICO COUNTY - A Pamlico County resident, Phillip M. Prescott Sr. died in a house fire, according to fire officials.
The fire happened on 1049 Prescott Road in Grantsboro. Crews were on scene around 1:30 Saturday Morning, according to officials. The split level home had a lot of smoke and fire coming from the roof. Fire officials tell NewsChannel 12 a relative of Prescott said Prescott was trapped in a bedroom on the second story. Rescue crews removed the 80-year-old man from the home. Medical Personnel pronounced him dead on scene.
Friends and family of Prescott said he was a good honest man that was well known in the community. A friend, Charles Autry knew Prescott for more than 50 years.
"My heart kind of broke to start with we've been good friends for years and years and years," Autry said.
He said Prescott was a farmer that comes from a good family.
A fire official on scene told NewsChannel 12 he does not suspect foul play.
Pamlico County Fire Marshal, Chris Murray said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The State Bureau of Investigations as well as the Pamlico County Fire Marshal Office and the Sheriff's office are working together to find out the cause of the fire.
