One-stop early voting started Thursday for the May Primary.
Voting runs from April 24 to Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m. The primary is May 6.
There are some notable changes to the early voting procedure in 2014. The voting period was reduced from 17 days to 10 days by the general assembly in 2013. However, the hours to vote were supposed to remain the same. In some cases, that hasn't happened.
"The days narrowed, but the amount of accumulative hours did not narrow," said Craven County Board of Elections Director Meloni Wray." What that did was force counties to have to open more sites to get all of the hours in."
However, Craven County was unable to find a sixth site to open to increase poll hours. The county was granted exemption from the state. Some other counties did the same.
Also, voter registration at early voting sites is gone. Registration for the May primary passed. The deadline was April 11.
"If you did not, we can give you materials to register, you can get ready for November, but that deadline has passed," said Wray. "You can not do same day registration anymore."
