A habitual drug offender is convicted again -- this time for possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine.

Taalib Mufiyd, 51, of Vanceboro, was sentenced in Craven County Superior Court on Thursday.

According to court documents, in one case Mufiyd threw out two bags of cocaine as he was pulling into a Highway Patrol checkpoint.

In another case -- Mufiyd was pulled over on his scooter because his passenger was not wearing a helmet.

Investigators say he tried to swallow 15 bags of cocaine in that incident.

Mufiyd has an extensive criminal record, including felony convictions for breaking and entering, possession of cocaine, and obtaining property by false pretense.

He was sentenced to at least nine years in prison.
