MCAS CHERRY POINT, CRAVEN COUNTY -

Down East residents will see increased air, ground and sea-based activity through this Friday, Oct. 11. 

Officials at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point said there will be several special training events in the coming days. Here's the schedule:

Oct. 1-11: Special boat teams will be operating in and around the Neuse River and Pamlico Sound. The teams will also conduct surface direct live-fire training in BT-9 and BT-11.

Oct. 8-11:  Special boat teams will conduct blank fire and flare training in the Neuse River north of Clubfoot Creek just east of Cherry Branch Ferry between the hours of 6-10 p.m.

Oct. 9-11:  Special boat teams will conduct blank fire and flare training in Slocum Creek just north of Cherry Point and within the G-5 training area off Lewis Farm Road and south of Carolina Pines Housing between the hours of 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Residents should expect to hear blank gunfire and see flares in the sky at those locations during the above periods.
