CEDAR POINT, CARTERET COUNTY - A Richlands man is accused of killing another man in Carteret County Saturday morning.
According to deputies, Curtis Liddell Pate, 29, stabbed Gary Harris, 33, over an incident involving a woman. The attack happened at 2:00 a.m. Saturday on the 100 block of Cedar Lane in Cedar Point, deputies said
Pate allegedly left the scene and was later found by deputies at a home in Hubert.
Harris worked at Harris Brothers Construction Company with his two brothers.
Harris' landlord, Scott Listo described Harris as a hard worker.
"He was always happy. Always in a good mood, and he was friendly to everybody. Everybody that was around him liked him," Losito said.
Losito said Harris had a party Friday night
"All I know is last night was Friday the 13th, and people go crazy on that night," Losito said.
Losito talked to the victim's brothers who told him the suspect, Curtis Pate, was chasing after his girlfriend. She had just ran out of Harris' home. Losito said Harris ran after the two, but that the motive is unknown at this time.
He said Harris was on his front porch when Pate allegedly stabbed him. Friends brought Harris inside and tried to stop the bleeding before EMS arrived.
Harris died later at Carteret General Hospital.
Pate was arrested and is charged with one count of murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday and is being held in Carteret County Jail with no bond.
