N.C. Highway Patrol said a Pamlico County deputy was involved in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday night.
Deputy Stephen C. Beck was traveling eastbound on N.C. 55, in a marked vehicle, around 9 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road.
Beck's vehicle then traveled onto the shoulder and over a private grass driveway, striking a ditch bank, officials said.
The vehicle continued on and hit a utility pole, with the vehicle's side back panel, before stopping at a tree line on N.C. 55.
The Highway Patrol said Deputy Beck was responding to a domestic call and had his emergency lights and sirens activated.
The crash was a single-vehicle accident and the patrol vehicle sustained around $1,500 in property damage.
Deputy Beck was taken to Carolina East Hospital by the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Department for complaint of back pain, but he did not have any visible signs of injury.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
