Mother-and-son duo arrested for attempted armed robbery, deputies say
Deputies have charged a mother and son for an attempted armed robbery at a Jacksonville florist, as well as an armed heist at a Bojangles' restaurant.
According to investigators, Kimberly Christian and her 17-year-old son, Richard "Tommy" Dennis, tried to rob April Showers Florist on Piney Green Road at about 4:15 p.m. Monday.
"He said 'I need the money out of the register,'" said the florist clerk, Jayne. She asked for her identity to be protected.
Investigators said Dennis ran from the florist and got into a car driven by his mother. But the pair was arrested three miles down the road near Deputy Ray Lane.
The mother-and-son duo was also responsible for an armed robbery on Oct. 16 at a Bojangles' on Halltown Road, deputies said. Dennis allegedly entered the restaurant with his face covered and a gun in his hand, and escaped with an unknown amount of money, according to investigators.
Deputies said Dennis was also involved in an attempted carjacking in Jacksonville a day after the Bojangles' armed robbery.
"He just had the gun in my face," said the victim in that case, Julian Lambert.
The mother has a younger son, too.
It is unclear where that son, who was not said to be involved in the case, is now staying.
