Investigators have added a murder charge to a Craven County man who allegedly stabbed and killed his brother. Deputies said the suspect also attacked his mother.
According to District Attorney Scott Thomas, 50-year-old Delgen Foye will appear in Craven District Court on Friday at 9:30 a.m. for the new murder charge.
Foye allegedly used a butcher knife to attack his brother, Britts Foye, and mother, Cora Foye, inside their home on John Street in James City. It happened just after 2 a.m. on June 14, deputies said.
Foye was originally charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon. But since Foye's brother died from being stabbed in the chest and bicep, deputies have added murder to the list of charges.
Deputies said Foye also cut his mother’s wrist with the knife. At last check, she was in critical condition.
Foye's mother is well known in her community. Neighbors said she has lived in the area for as long as they can remember.
“[I’m] very sorry to hear that this had happened to her and her son,” said neighbor Myrtle Downing.
It is not clear what sparked the attack, deputies said. Foye has a criminal conviction record that dates back to 1983, according to records.
