Police have identified a man who they say confessed to an armed robbery at a Dollar General in Vanceboro.

According to Vanceboro Police Chief James Jenkins, Demetrius Donell Woods, of Sleep Ridge Drive north of Dover, was arrested Monday night.

Woods gave a written statement saying he used a handgun and box cutter to rob the Dollar General off Highway 43 in Vanceboro, Chief Jenkins told NewsChannel 12. The robbery happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 20.

According to Chief Jenkins, a clerk and some customers were inside the store at the time. They were not hurt. The suspect allegedly stole $145 and left the scene on foot.

Chief Jenkins said it was Wood's distinct limp that led authorities to him. The suspect is being held under a $25,000 secured bond at the Craven County Jail.

Chief Jenkins added that he would like to thank the Craven County Sheriff's Office and Crimestoppers for their help in this case.
