Deputies: Homeless man robs woman at knifepoint in front of kids

PITT COUNTY - Deputies have arrested a homeless man accused of robbing a mother at knifepoint in the presence of her two young children.

According to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, Remarto Rodgers used a butcher knife to rob the woman as she was arriving home with her two small children. It happened on the front lawn of the victim's home on Alexander Brown Road, south of Bethel, at about 1:50 a.m. Friday, investigators said.

Deputies and a K-9 unit later found Rodgers in the woods nearby, the Sheriff's Office stated. Investigators said they recovered most of the stolen items: cash, debit cards, cell phones and a coat.

Rodgers confessed to the robbery, and was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of second-degree kidnapping, deputies said. He was being held on a $200,000 secured bond.
