Deputies: Fatal accident victim's memorial flowers stolen
The family of a fatal accident victim and the Jones County Sheriff's Office are asking for help finding whoever stole memorial flowers from a home in Pollocksville.
38-year-old Steven Keech was riding his motorcycle on a narrow road in Pamlico County September, 15, when he hit a pick up truck. Keech died on the scene.
Memorial flowers posted outside his house from family members and EMTs from Vanceboro were possibly stolen on Wednesday.
"I don't know if it was somebody just being mean or if it was a family member or somebody that we know of that took them," said Holly Keech, Steven's sister. "We're not sure. Nobody has came forward and let us know."
In a plea on his Facebook.com page, Jones County Sheriff Danny Heath asked for help finding whoever is responsible. It's unclear why someone would want to steal Keech's flowers.
"I don't care if they get in trouble or not," said Keech "At least bring them back. Lay them back down out here, we'll get them."
All of the flowers were red, white and blue. It served as a testament to Steven Keech's 20 years in the military, first in the Army and then the National Guard. Keech was also an EMT for Vanceboro Rescue Squad.
