LA GRANGE, LENOIR COUNTY - Deputies have arrested a suspect but are still searching for another in the shooting death of a man in La Grange. Investigators say more than 30 shots were fired into the victim's car.
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office said Demico Cannon is charged with an open count of murder in the death of 21-year-old Duane Lavoris Bright Jr.
Bright was found shot and killed on South Wooten Street in La Grange on July 15, said investigators.
Deputies said Bright was in a car by himself when a truck with two people inside pulled up behind Bright's vehicle. The people inside the truck then fired into Bright's car, killing the victim, the Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators said they found 31 bullet holes in Bright's silver Impala.
Detectives said they learned during their investigation than Cannon was involved in the shooting. Deputies saw Cannon on July 18 leaving a home on Keith Hills Drive near La Grange. Cannon fled but was quickly arrested at about 9 p.m., investigators said.
Cannon is being held without bond.
Investigators said they are still currently searching for Cannon's brother, William Ontrell Cannon. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office at 252-559-6140.
There is no word on a motive for the fatal shooting.
