AHOSKIE, Hertford County - Two men have been arrested in a pair of gun store thefts in eastern North Carolina, the Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced Tuesday.
Ahoskie residents Grant Harrell and Lydell Newsome were arrested on Monday and have been charged in federal court. The ATF says there are other suspects still wanted in the case and more arrests are expected.
The burglaries occurred on April 15 in the early morning hours at Ahoskie-based Tamz Guns & Ammo and on April 25 at Mackey's Landing Firearms in Jamesville. Multiple firearms were stolen from both locations, the ATF said.
According to the ATF, anyone found in possession of a stolen firearm may face state or federal prosecution, and is punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison.
These crimes are being investigated by ATF, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville Police Department and the Elizabeth City Police Department.
