A man accused of shooting a pregnant woman in Duplin County, killing her unborn twins, will once again be charged with murder.
District Attorney Ernie Lee said Wednesday that two counts of first-degree murder will be reinstated against Gregory R. Chapman (seen above). On Tuesday, the N.C. Court of Appeals ruled that a judge was wrong in dismissing the charges against the suspect.
According to investigators, Chapman shot expectant mother Lisa Wallace, of Warsaw, in 2008. The victim, who was 29 years old and 5 months pregnant, survived. But her unborn twins died in the shooting.
Chapman also faces felony assault and weapons counts.
The shooting occurred before passage of a 2011 law that made the killing of a fetus a homicide. The judge dismissed the murder charges against Chapman in 2010, ruling the twins were too undeveloped to survive outside the womb. Chapman has remained in jail during the appeal.
