Court date set for mother of murdered 5-year-old
A trial date has been set for the mother of a slain 5-year-old Shaniya Davis, the girl murdered by Mario McNeill after investigators say her mother gave the girl to McNeill to settle a drug debt.
The Fayetteville Observer reports Antoinette Davis faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, sexual servitude with a child and human trafficking in connection with the death of Shaniya Davis in November 2009.
District Attorney Billy West said he anticipates the trial of Antoniette Davis to last four to six weeks in Cumberland County Superior Court.
Davis's lawyer, D.W. Bray, asked for a second lawyer to assist him in her defense. Judge Jim Ammons granted the request.
Jurors deliberated for less than 40 minutes in late May before convicting Mario McNeill for the child's murder, McNeill was sentenced to death.
