Places in Carteret County saw flooding-- including Morehead City-- where a main highway was shut down for some time.
In less than two hours, residents near the Crystal Coast saw more than four inches of rain Thursday afternoon.
The front yard of Jay Spitz's home was essentially transformed into a pond as a result of the heavy rains. In his yard the water level was so high that it nearly reached his knees.
Spitz says, "I stopped right here at the end of the driveway cause I'm looking and I can't see my front porch, I mean the rain was so hard."
The afternoon downpour also caused traffic issues off of Highway 70 backing up traffic for sometime and even flooding some business parking lots.
Emergency service officials want to remind drivers to be cautious and remember "Turn Around-- Don't Drown."
