NEW BERN, CRAVEN COUNTY -

A local bridal shop abruptly closes, leaving brides concerned about their big day.

NewsChannel 12 spoke with one New Bern bride-to-be who now has to scramble to find other bridesmaids dress options.

"We decided to order my bridesmaid dress and tuxedos through The Intimate Bridal. They were very reputable so we were excited to work with them on our upcoming day," said bride Jessica Hudson.

Hudson said she spoke with the store's manager on Monday and was told to come in Tuesday to talk about her dress order.

"My bridesmaids dresses were supposed to be here April 15th," she explained.

But when Hudson got to the store the next morning she was greeted by an empty building, and a sign saying they were closed.

"There was also a notice on the website that he decided to spontaneously and permanently close his doors,” she said.

Hudson said her big day is May 17th, and the only element missing is seven jade green bridesmaids’ dresses.

"I was shocked that someone would have the audacity to do something like this," she said.

NewsChannel 12 spoke with the manager of The Intimate Bridal store off camera to get both sides of the story. He said the CEO of the company had to file for bankruptcy due to do health issues.  The manager said the property owners wouldn't renew the shop's lease, and it had no choice but to close its doors. He said they are trying to work with bridal parties to ensure everyone gets what they ordered.

Hudson said when she went the store's website she saw a mention that any pending orders would be handled by The Wedding Shop in New Bern on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

NewsChannel 12 also spoke with The Wedding Shop store owner and she said they had only agreed to take over layaway orders after The Intimate Bridal closed. The owner explained they never agreed to take over pending orders, but now they are trying to help the brides in any way they can.

The Intimate Bridal manager said he has never failed on a dress order in ten years and doesn't plan to start now.
