Gunman and victims identified in deadly church shooting

Antioch, TN - Federal agents have opened a civil rights investigation into the shooting at a Tennessee church. FBI Supervisory Special Agent Joel E. Siskovic III says the FBI and the U.S. attorney's office for the Middle District of Tennessee will investigate the shooting at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in the Nashville neighborhood of Antioch. The statement says the FBI will handle the collection of evidence. The shooting left one woman dead and eight others wounded, including the suspect.

Police have released the name of a woman who was fatally shot by a suspect at a church in Tennessee.

Metropolitan Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron says 39-year-old Melanie Smith of Smyrna, Tennessee, was shot Sunday outside the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in the Nashville neighborhood of Antioch.
    
Aaron says Smith was shot as she left the church, and the suspect then proceeded inside.

The gunman in Tennessee Church shooting has been identified by police as 25 year old Emanual Samson. Police say Sampson was wounded  during the confrontation. He is receiving medical treatment for a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest and will be jailed later tonight, according to police.

Previous Story:

There has been a confirmed shooting inside Burnette Chapel Church of Christ on Pin Hook Rd. in Antioch, TN at around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The Nashville Fire Department says at least seven people are injured and one person is dead. They say all the victims except for one is above the age of 60. Police say one person, a 22 year old church usher, was pistol whipped by the gunman.

The shooter has also been shot, the fire department reports.

The other churchgoers have been moved to a safe location.

The Metro Nashville Police Department is on the scene investigating. They say at least one person is dead.
