Fire crews rescue stranded boaters from island
Fire crews rescued a couple and a child who became stranded on an island off the Eastern Carolina coast.
The Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department rescued the boaters at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday from an island between Hammocks Beach and the tip of Emerald Isle. According to officials, the victims became stuck when low tide left their boat stranded on a beach.
Officials said the boaters would have likely been stuck there all night if rescue crews had not been in the area.
