BEULAVILLE, DUPLIN COUNTY -

Beulaville’s police chief announced Tuesday he will be retiring soon.

Chief Joey Carter told NewsChannel 12 his official retirement date is Aug. 1. In a statement, Carter said, "...it was time to retire and go home."

Carter was appointed as the chief of the Beulaville Police Department in January 2010. He has been in law enforcement for 31 years.
