Barber becomes Emerald Isle mayor-elect

EMERALD ISLE, CARTERET COUNTY -

Eddie Barber has won a four-way race to become the mayor-elect of Emerald Isle.

According to the Board of Elections, Barber received 35.02 percent (387) of the 1,105 total votes Tuesday night. He beat out Ryan Ayre (26.61 percent, 294 votes), Brandon Staton (23.44 percent, 259 votes) and Don wells (14.75 percent, 163 votes).

Barber will replace outgoing Emerald Isle Mayor Art Schools.

"I would like to thank all my supporters. I would like to commend Mayor Schools for the wonderful job he's served for the last 12 years and his wife, Diane. Art taught us what a good mayor is all about," Barber said.

Barber will be sworn into office in December.
