Armed robbery suspect surrenders
A teenager wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Jacksonville tobacco shop turned himself into authorities Friday, according to Jacksonville Police.
Christopher Lee Petteway, Jr., who was wanted by Jacksonville Police on armed robbery charges, surrendered to Onslow County deputies at approximately 7:00 p.m., according to a JPD news release.
Warrants for his arrest were served by Jacksonville Police Department Detectives.
At approximately 7:50 PM, on Wednesday, May 15th, Jacksonville Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Emily’s Tobacco Shop, located in the Piney Green Shopping Center, 175-4 Freedom Way. The suspect entered the business, requested cigarettes and pointed a silver revolver at the clerk, demanding cash from the register, according to police.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, running between the buildings into the area behind the shopping center. Jacksonville Police, with the assistance of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department, established a perimeter and conducted a search of the area, but did not locate the subject.
The investigation identified the suspect as Christopher Lee Petteway, Jr., 18, of Midway Park. He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, felony possession of stolen property and was booked at the the Onslow County Jail under an $80,750 secured bond.
“We appreciate the assistance of Onslow County Sheriff’s Department with this case,” said Captain Jason Bettis, JPD investigative services division.
