EASTERN CAROLINA -

The Coast Guard has called off a search in Eastern Carolina after receiving another possible hoax call.

Petty Officer Adam Sansoucie said crews got a distress call at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Crews with Station Hobucken sent out a 25-foot response boat to search Brices Creek, as well as the Neuse and Trent Rivers, Sansoucie said. The New Bern Fire Department and other Craven County emergency officials also used rescue boats to help in the search.

The search has since been called off, but the case is still under investigation, Sansoucie told NewsChannel 12.

There have been several hoax calls placed to the Coast Guard since early October, according to officials. No arrests have been made in those cases.
