Woman dies in head-on collision involving teen driver

DUPLIN COUNTY -

Troopers said a 36-year-old Chinquapin woman was killed in a head-on collision involving a teen driver Wednesday night. 

It happened shortly before 9p.m. on NC 111 just southeast of Beulaville.  That's in Duplin County. 

Troopers said Alex Evan Hayes, 17, of Chinquapin, was driving east on NC 111, when the teen driver crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on.

Troopers said the driver of that vehicle, Jolene Albertson Edens, 36, of Chinquapin, died from her injuries.  

The teen was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  The teen's condition is unknown at this time.  

Troopers said the incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
