White concedes NC Senate race after 2nd recount
State Sen. Stan White has conceded the 1st District election to Republican challenger Bill Cook after a limited hand-to-eye recount showed Cook's lead was unchanged.
White led Cook by 388 votes on Election Night, but a canvass of the vote on Nov. 16 showed Cook held an 80-vote lead. After additional canvassing a day later, Cook's lead dropped to 32 votes.
White requested a machine recount of ballots in the district's eight counties. That recount on Nov. 26 reduced Cook's lead to 21 votes out of more than 87,000 votes cast. But limited hand-to-eye recounts from randomly drawn precincts in each of the eight counties showed no change in Cook's edge.
White said Monday that he wishes Cook the best in a district he described as big and diverse.
