CHAPEL HILL -

North Carolina's Jonathan Cooper and Giovani Bernard have been named to the Associated Press All-America team.  Cooper was a first-team selection at guard and Bernard was a third-team pick at running back.

Cooper has now earned consensus All-America honors and his name will be added to the honored jerseys in Kenan Stadium.  He also was named a first-team All-America by the American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, ESPN.com and Sports Illustrated.

A native of Wilmington, N.C., Cooper graded out at 90 percent on the season and had double digits in knockdown blocks in nine of 12 games this season.  He played an important role in Carolina's running game, which averaged 193.8 yards per game, the highest per game average since 1994.

Bernard led the ACC and was 11th in the country in rushing with 122.8 yards per game.  He carried 184 times for 1,228 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.  He also had 47 catches for 490 yards and five scores.  Bernard led the nation in punt return average, was fourth in all-purpose average and fifth in scoring per game.

Carolina set single-season school records for total offense per game, passing yards per game and scoring per game.
