Troopers: Camp Lejeune Marine killed in motorcycle crash

ONSLOW COUNTY -

A Marine died in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night after he ran off the road to the right, flipped, and overturned.

The Highway Patrol says the Marine, a 24-year-old stationed aboard Camp Lejeune, was traveling east on Ramsey Road near the intersection of Drummer Kellum Road just north of Jacksonville shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Troopers said the man, whose name is being withheld until family is notified, was ejected and struck a nearby ditch culvert.  He was transported to Onslow Memorial where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say speed was a factor, but that he was wearing his helmet.
