Brices Creek Road wreck
CRAVEN COUNTY -

A driver ran off a road and crashed into a tree, killing her, the Highway Patrol said. When the victim's dog jumped out of the vehicle after the wreck, it was hit and killed by a passing vehicle.

It happened at about 11:20 a.m. Wednesday on Brices Creek Road, near Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in Craven County. Joann Blandford, 74, of New Bern, ran her truck off the road and hit a driveway culvert, before smashing into a tree, killing her, Trooper T.L. Van Dyke said.

After the wreck, Blandford's dog jumped out of the truck, but was hit and killed by another vehicle, Trooper Van Dyke said.

The Highway Patrol were investigating what caused the wreck. Speed and alcohol were not factors, Trooper Van Dyke said.
