The Alabama town of Jacksons Gap chose its mayor in a recent election, but that winner won't be taking office.

Janice Canham passed away about a month ago, but WFSA-TV reports that she was re-elected in an election this week.

Canham defeated opponent Michael Crouch 128 votes to 66, the station reported.

The towns deputy mayor will continue to hold office, and the town has 60 days following the Nov. 5 general election to appoint its new mayor.
