Officials with The Greenville Police Department say a 14-year-old shot into a home that had multiple people including children inside.
The incident was reported before 1 a.m. Friday. Officers report they responded to an emergency call at 210 Hudson Street. When police arrived they found bullet holes in the residence.
Shortly after the shots, an officer was patrolling near the crime scene perimeter when he observed a juvenile running toward him from the direction of the crime scene.
The juvenile threw down a handgun in the street and surrendered to police. Parents of the boy were notified.
Detectives obtained and served a secured custody order against the boy and he was confined at the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center.
He is charged with discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a handgun by a minor, and possession of a firearm with the serial number removed/altered.
Sgt. Joe Friday said everything came together quickly.
"We're very happy to get this kid get this gun off the street and take it from there," he said.
This case is still under investigation and additional arrests are possible.
