DUPLIN COUNTY -

A Duplin County man is denied bond in the murder investigation of his girlfriend's toddler, according to Sheriff Blake Wallace.

The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday charged Christopher Bralley, 28, with first degree murder, sex offense with a child, and felony child abuse.  During Friday's court appearance, a judge denied Bralley bond; he is set to appear in court in June.

Bralley allegedly brutally beat the boy, Daybeon Keim, at the Magnolia-area home the suspect shared with Daybeon’s mother.

“I’m glad we have this monster off the streets,” Sheriff Wallace said of Bralley.

Bralley’s mother was at the Nash Johnson Pond Road home Tuesday morning and called 911 after finding Daybeon unresponsive, Wallace said.  Daybeon later died at a hospital.

"I've been in law enforcement for 24 years… and I've never seen anything like this,” Wallace said.

There’s no apparent motive for the murder, the sheriff said.
