Students charged for false 911 calls of campus shooting
Four Kinston High School students were arrested and charged for allegedly making false 911 calls, claiming there was a shooting on campus.
Jaquell Lawson, 16, Alexis Whitfield, 16, and two 15-year-old juveniles were arrested on Monday. Police said the students made false 911 calls on Friday, reporting a shooting on the campus of Kinston High School. Officers said those students were also responsible for false threats that were called in to South Lenoir High School on the same day.
“I was devastated,” said Angela Bryant, principal of Kinston High School. “Not only is this a crime, but you put other people in danger when they do things like this.”
Lawson and Whitfield were charged with misdemeanor misuse of a 911 system. The two juveniles were served with juvenile petitions, police said.
Principal Bryant did not elaborate on the consequences that the students will face on the school level, but she said their behavior will not be tolerated.
“At the end of the day, you want to make sure there are lessons learned from those students, and that obviously there are severe consequences,” she said.
Police said the 911 calls are still under investigation and more charges are pending.
